Intimate Wedding in Avignon | Pizza, Pastries and Candlelight
Is your wedding calling for something deeply personal rather than traditionally grand? Something warm, simple, and entirely your own?
Evangeline and Noah chose to celebrate their intimate wedding in Avignon, in the heart of Provence, in a way that reflected exactly who they are. Instead of a large venue or a formal reception, they gathered their closest people in a beautiful Airbnb for an intimate celebration built around what they love most: good food, candlelight, and meaningful moments shared together.
Their theme was simple and joyful — Pizza and Pastries.
As the sun slowly set over the Provençal rooftops, the groom’s father went to pick up pizzas from a local pizzeria and brought them back to the house, where guests gathered in the courtyard to share food, laughter and glasses of wine. Later in the evening, the table slowly filled with delicate pastries and desserts, shared between laughter, conversations and candlelight. It was relaxed, sincere, and far from traditional wedding conventions — which made it all the more beautiful.
As a South of France wedding photographer, these are the kinds of celebrations I love documenting — simple, thoughtful, and deeply personal.

Should You Choose an Intimate Wedding in Provence?
Not every couple dreams of a large wedding.
Many couples travelling to France today choose something more personal: smaller gatherings where the focus is on atmosphere, connection, and time spent together.
An intimate wedding in Avignon or Provence offers exactly that. Instead of following a strict schedule or hosting hundreds of guests, couples can create a celebration that feels natural and meaningful.
Places like Avignon, with its historic streets, warm evenings and Mediterranean rhythm, naturally lend themselves to these kinds of gatherings.
For Evangeline and Noah, choosing an Airbnb rather than a traditional venue created the feeling of a shared home for the weekend — a place where friends and family could simply enjoy being together.

Planning a Wedding in Avignon
Located in the heart of Provence, Avignon is one of the most beautiful destinations in the South of France for couples planning a wedding abroad. The city is easily accessible by train from Paris or by plane via Marseille Airport, making it convenient for guests travelling internationally.
Around Avignon, many remarkable places offer stunning settings for destination weddings:
Mas de la Rose, Château de Robernier, Domaine de Blanche Fleur, or the vineyards and countryside surrounding Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and the Luberon.
But weddings in Provence don’t always need grand estates to feel special. Private villas, countryside homes, or charming Airbnbs often create the most relaxed and meaningful celebrations — especially for couples who prefer an intimate atmosphere over a formal reception.
As an Avignon wedding photographer, I often see couples drawn to these smaller gatherings where the focus remains on people and atmosphere rather than scale.

The Light of Provence
One of the reasons so many couples travel to Provence to get married is the light.
This light creates an atmosphere that feels both cinematic and timeless — something that photographers have been drawn to for decades. It’s the same light that transforms extraordinary places across the region, from historic villages to iconic locations such as the Baux-de-Provence Quarries
During Evangeline and Noah’s wedding, the evening unfolded slowly as this golden light faded into candlelight, giving the entire celebration a quiet, almost film-like mood.
Turning Your Wedding Into a Full Weekend in Provence
When guests travel across the world to celebrate with you, many couples choose to extend their wedding into a full weekend.
Destination weddings in Provence often unfold over several days, allowing everyone to truly enjoy the region.
Day 1 — Welcome Dinner
Guests arrive and gather for a relaxed evening: long tables, local wine, and simple food shared together as the sun sets.
Day 2 — The Wedding Day
A ceremony surrounded by close friends and family, followed by dinner outdoors. In Evangeline and Noah’s case, this meant pizzas shared under the open sky and pastries passed around a candlelit table.
Day 3 — A Slow Morning
A relaxed brunch, coffee in the garden, and a quiet goodbye before everyone returns home.
These slower celebrations often become some of the most memorable weddings to photograph.
Photographing an Intimate Wedding in Avignon
Weddings like Evangeline and Noah’s are a reminder that there is no single way to celebrate a marriage.
Sometimes the most meaningful celebrations are also the simplest: a long table filled with candles, friends gathered close, laughter over shared food, and the quiet beauty of a summer evening in Provence.
Part of this wedding was also photographed on 35mm film, a medium I often include alongside digital photography. Film naturally responds to light, texture and atmosphere in a way that feels timeless — something that works beautifully with the soft tones of Provence and intimate celebrations like this one.
If you’re planning a wedding in Avignon or anywhere in the South of France — whether in a château, a countryside villa, or a private home — I would be happy to document it with the same attention to atmosphere and connection. Many couples are drawn to Provence for its relaxed rhythm, historic landscapes and beautiful southern light.
